The Rome Free Academy girls swim and dive team (14-1) continued its impressive season, winning the Center State Conference Championships for the second-consecutive year on Friday at RFA High School.

The Raiders (541) edged the second-placed Holland Patent Golden Knights (323) and the third-placed Cooperstown Hawkeyes (322). Adirondack finished fourth with 272, Whitesboro was fifth with 254, Proctor was sixth with 174 and West Canada Valley finished seventh with a score of 148.

RFA senior Veronika Nelson earned top finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.38), in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.85) and was a member of the Raiders’ first-placed 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relay teams.

Seniors Katerina Dragojevic and Aryann Dolan, and junior Kara Williamson rounded out RFA’s 200-yard medley team that finished in 2:00.21. The 200-yard freestyle team – which finished in 1:48.20 – consisted of Nelson, Williamson, Dolan and junior Emma Preski.

Dragojevic also finished first in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:05.41, and Williamson earned a first-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:30.36.

Holland Patent senior Erin Shivas won the CSC diving title with a score of 237.45 for the second-straight year, and senior Maggie McGuire placed first in the 100-yard freestyle (57.85) narrowly defeating Whitesboro’s Elizabeth Deck who finished in 58.54.

Holland Patent’s 400-yard freestyle relay team – which consisted of Shivas, McGuire, and juniors Arianna Lange and Jenna Mazza – placed first in 3:59.37.

For Whitesboro, Deck placed first in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.05, and freshman Danielle DeCarlo was the top finisher in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:51.19.

Adirondack senior Sarah Mercer won her third-straight 100-yard breaststroke CSC title with a first place finish in 1:14.62.

The Section III girls swimming championships are scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 7 and Friday, Nov. 8 at Nottingham High School, and the State qualifiers are set for Saturday, Nov. 9 and Sunday, Nov. 10 also at Nottingham High School.
