POLAND, N.Y. – The Poland Tornadoes beat DeRuyter for the second time this season Thursday and earned a spot in Section III’s Class D semifinals.

The undefeated and top-seeded Tornadoes won 6-0 in what will likely be their final match on their current field with the school’s new stadium field set to open for track and field in the spring. Poland had shut DeRuyter out 8-0 in their Columbus Day Tournament’s championship match 11 days earlier.

Poland led 4-0 at halftime – the teams’ previous meeting had been 5-0 at the break – and got goals from four players. Lexi Bates scored twice Thursday, just as she had in the Oct. 13 match, Jordyn Squire and Leah Batson each had one goal and one assist, and Riley Wisheart scored one goal. Logan Cookinham and Erin Powers each contributed one assist. Jordan Batson recorded the only Poland save while splitting time with Emily Schrader as the team’s goalkeeper.

Kelsey Brown had 14 saves for DeRuyter.

Poland (18-0-0) is one of three unbeaten teams in the Class D sectional Final Four and will play against McGraw (16-0-2) in the first semifinal Wednesday in Chittenango. Copenhagen (16-0-2) and Fabius-Pompey (14-2-1) will play later.
