LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. – The Little Falls Mounties marked the end of the regular season Saturday with their annual field hockey pink game and a 5-0 win over the Herkimer Magicians.
Sporting black tank tops with pink lettering and a Stick It to Cancer slogan against a Herkimer squad decked in solid pink tops, the traditionally purple Mounties outshot their guests 17-1 and scored three goals in the final nine minutes of the first half to open a 3-0 lead. They added two goals in 5 ½ minutes to start the second half.
Maggie LaBreche opened the scoring for Little Falls (9-7-0) and Sammie Young scored twice in the final three minutes with her second goal entering the Herkimer cage with one second left on the clock.
Anna Sadekoski added a second half goal to her two assists, after Alice Bucenec scored 64 second into the second half. Gianna Macri and Allyson Nichols each had one assist while goalie Hannah Young recorded a single save in the second half.
Caitlynn Ovitt had 14 saves for Herkimer.
Following the game, the Mounties held their Senior Night ceremonies for five departing members of the class of 2020 and continued an annual end-of-season tradition with hair-cutting for Locks of Love and Wigs for Kids.
Seeds and schedules were announced Sunday for the Section III playoffs. The Mounties are seeded third in a five-team Class D field and will meet No. 2 Morrisville-Eaton in the first of Sunday’s semifinals at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill. Weedsport, the top seed, plays later against the winner of Wednesday’s game between Sauquoit Valley and Port Byron.
