CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – The Central Valley Academy extended their winning streak to four games Friday when they defeated Cazenovia’s Lakers 25-20 on the road.
The Thunder (4-2, 4-2 B East) trailed 20-12 in the second half before scoring the final two touchdowns against the Lakers (3-3, 3-3 B East) who had also won three games in a row after starting 0-2. Mitchell Arndt ran for his second touchdown in the third quarter but a failed two-point try left Central Valley Academy trailing 20-18 entering the fourth.
Central Valley Academy took the lead when Cole Brewer caught his seventh touchdown pass of the season from Michael Dihrberg. Brewer added the kick for a five-point lead.
Arndt had run for a touchdown in the first quarter and Dihrberg threw a 24-yard scoring pass to Brennan Murray in the third. The Dihrberg-to-Brewer pass was 23 yards.
Ryan Romagnoli ran for two touchdowns for Cazenovia, including the 35-yarder that put the Lakers up by eight points in the third quarter.
Central Valley Academy trails only Oneida and New Hartford in the Class B East standings and the two unbeatens play head-to-head Friday. The Thunder ends the regular season at home Friday with a game against Vernon-Verona-Sherrill which is currently tied with Cazenovia, one game behind Central Valley Academy. The top four teams in each of Section III’s Class B leagues advance to the playoffs.
