WINFIELD, N.Y. – The Herkimer Magicians outscored Mt. Markham 11-6 in the fourth quarter Thursday and defeated the Mustangs 37-32 in a game that had been tied after three quarters.

Herkimer (7-6) had scored four points in the first quarter and trailed by one at halftime.

Alana Ferri led the Magicians with 18 points and added 10 rebounds, eight steals, four assists and three blocked shots as Herkimer, a one-point winner over Sherburne-Earlville Monday, recorded back-to-back wins for the first time since winning three games in a row in early December. Ally Kirkpatrick led the team with 12 rebounds, and Marion Leskovar hit two three-point shots.

Julia Kocienda and Allison Sterling each scored 10 points to lead Mt. Markham (5-6), and Sterling recorded a double-double with 11 rebounds and four blocked shots. Olivia Ostrander added seven points and nine rebounds, and Hayleigh Gates had four steals.

The game was the second of three scheduled meetings between the teams. Mt. Markham beat the Magicians 50-43 in the first round of holiday tournament play in Edmeston in December, and the teams meet again in Herkimer Jan. 28.

Herkimer plays at Oriskany Monday and Mt. Markham travels to Sherburne-Earlville.

POLAND, N.Y. – The West Canada Valley Indians pulled out a 55-47 win over Poland Thursday by outscoring the Tornadoes 17-9 in the fourth quarter of a game that had been tied after three.

Jordyn Conte scored eight of her 13 points in the fourth quarter for West Canada Valley (7-5) and Maggie Burdick added five. Joslin hit four three-pointers and led the Indians with 15 points while Conte had seven assists and five rebounds and three steals. Caroline Tobin added nine points, 11 rebounds and four steals.

Amanda Sweet had 14 points to lead the Tornadoes (4-7) who got 10 each from Tayler Clark and Jamie Weakley, and nine from Heather Artz.

Both teams play at home Monday, West Canada Valley against Sauquoit Valley, and Poland against Frankfort-Schuyler.
