WINFIELD, N.Y. – The West Canada Valley Indians extended their winning streak to seven games with a one-point win at Mt. Markham Thursday.

Jacob Smith scored 18 points, and Nate Rath had 15 for the Indians (9-2) who led by 10 points at halftime and saw the margin cut to two when Mt. Markham’s Mustangs (6-4) scored 23 points in the third quarter. Caden Ludwig added 11 points, and Jaeden Beam 10 for West Canada Valley.

Eddie King hit five three-pointers and led Mt. Markham with a game-high 27 points, one shy of his career-high. Ethan Maine added 18 points while Jordan Baucom scored 11 with six rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Connor Luke grabbed 10 rebounds.

Mt. Markham plays at home Saturday against Frankfort-Schuyler. West Canada Valley meets Herkimer at Utica College in Saturday’s Mohawk Valley Basketball Classic; the Indians and Magicians are scheduled for a 4 p.m. tip-off following the 2 p.m. game between Cooperstown and Sherburne-Earlville.

SMITHFIELD, N.Y. – Sophomore Kade Ozog scored a career-high 30 points for Poland Thursday in the Tornadoes’ 55-49 win over the Morrisville-Eaton Warriors.

Ozog, a first-year varsity player, had previously scored 19 points in a game against Owen D. Young. The Tornadoes (3-7, 1-5 CSC-IV) also got 11 points from Dylan Miller and nine from Isaiah Zuchowski in their first league win of the season. Ozog and Zuchowski each had three three-pointers.

Mitchell Dewey had 13 points to lead Morrisville-Eaton. Logan Hosler added 10 points for the Warriors who were outscored 18-6 in the second quarter and trailed by 13 points at halftime.

Poland plays at Fabius-Pompey Monday.

NEW YORK MILLS, N.Y. – The New York Mills Marauders closed out Owen D. Young with a 21-point fourth quarter Friday and defeated the Wildcats 67-55.

The Marauders (6-3, 3-1 CSC-IV) led 46-44 entering the fourth quarter after being outscored 32-24 in the second and third. They had led 22-12 at the end of the opening period.

Logan Copperwheat and Alex Matrassi led New York Mills with 18 and 17 points, respectively, and Derek Baur added 12.

Stephen Dygert led Owen D. Young (4-6, 2-4 CSC-IV) with 18 points. John Hajczewski added 11 points and Stephen Manning scored nine.

Owen D. Young plays at home Tuesday against Frankfort-Schuyler. New York Mills has a Saturday afternoon meeting with Remsen.
