ILION, N.Y. – The Central Valley Academy Thunder ruined Camden’s playoff chances and claimed another narrow victory when they beat the Blue Devils 14-13 on a fourth-quarter touchdown pass and Riley Brewer’s conversion kick.

The Thunder won three of their last four regular season games by a combined total of six points, outscoring Mexico, New Hartford and Camden 32-26. Friday’s victory followed a two-point win over Mexico and last week’s 10-7 win at New Hartford.

Michael Dihrberg, who had thrown one previous pass this season, stepped in for Brewer at quarterback and threw a 58-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Williams to tie the score at 13. Brewer’s second successful kick of the night gave Central Valley Academy the lead and eventually the win.

Brewer had run 22 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter after the Thunder went scoreless in the first half at Diss Memorial Field. His kick tied gave Central Valley Academy a brief 7-6 lead.

Camden regained the lead when Josh Mayden, who had a 43-yard touchdown in the first quarter, ran 25 yards for his second score of the game.

Dihrberg completed three of the five passes he threw for 66 yards. Hayden Shaver ran for 131 yards on 15 carries, Dihrberg had four carries for 69 yards, and Brewer had six for 40.

Mayden had 13 carried for 109 yards rushing and five receptions for 82 yards. Quarterback Kaden Gabler was 10-for-13 passing for 114 yards.

The Thunder is scheduled to play a crossover game Thursday at Solvay. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
