HERKIMER, N.Y. – Ilion Post finished first in District V’s regular season junior American Legion baseball standings after beating William Russell Post 12-5 Thursday at Herkimer College.

Ilion Post (15-5) finished 13-3 in league play, one game ahead of Utica Post (12-4) with Roberts Post and Whitestown Post tied for third place at 9-7. William Russell Post finished league play with a 2-14 record.

Ilion Post, the winner in its last seven games, scored three runs in the first inning and led 9-1 after four.

Mike DeRollo singled, doubled, walked twice, scored three runs and drove in two. Lucas Hartmann had three hits and three runs batted in while Brady Hoffman and Seth Capes each had two hits for Ilion Post, and Capes drove in two runs.

Nicholas Greene pitched the first five innings for Ilion Post, fanning six batters while allowing two runs on eight hits. Andrew Perry pitched the sixth and seventh innings.

Bryce Palmer had three hits for William Russell Post which outhit Ilion Post 13-11. Trenton Wong, Evan Kirkpatrick and Brady Carver each added two hits. Matt Hicks scored twice.

Ilion Post batters drew 13 walks.

Ilion Post plays at Fort Plain Saturday afternoon. The district playoffs begin Monday at Utica’s Murnane Field.
