UTICA — Utica Post Junior #229 team came back twice against Whitestown Post Junior #1113 in a 10-9 win Thursday at Murnane Field.
In the bottom of the seventh, Utica scored two runs on errors and tied it up on a single by Luke Medici.
Whitestown scored two runs in the top of the eighth to retake the lead. Noah Collea singled to center to drive in the first run of the eighth. Noah Scranton bunted to drive in the second run of the inning.
In the bottom half of the inning, Matt Casab singled in a run. Utica tied it on a double steal with Mike Reali scoring the tying run. Whitestown intentionally walked batters to load the bases. On a 0-1 count, when Anthony Walawander hit a hard ground ball back to the pitcher, Casab beat the throw to home plate to score the winning run for Utica.
Jason DeJesus (3-0) got the win for Utica. He pitched 2/3 of an inning and gave up one hit. Scranton took the loss for Whitestown, pitching 2/3 of an inning and gave up three runs on three hits.
Utica finished the regular season 12-4. Whitestown is now 9-7.
Whitestown and Utica will meet again in the playoffs at 5 p.m. Monday. Roberts Post Junior plays Ilion Post Jr. at 7:30. Both games are at Murnane Field.
