HOLLAND PATENT, N.Y. – Ilion Post’s junior team gave up eight runs in the first two innings Tuesday but bounced back from Monday’s loss with a 19-9 American Legion baseball win over Roberts Post at Holland Patent High School.
Adam Rotondi relieved Ilion Post starter Shane Hecker in the second inning and allowed one unearned run over four innings to earn the win in relief. Rotondi struck out five batters and walked one while allowing two hits. Andrew Perry came on in the sixth inning and recorded the final two outs.
Down 4-0 after one inning, Ilion Post scored five in the top of the second and gave up four more in the bottom of the inning. The visitors took the lead for good with six runs in the fourth inning and scored five more in the fifth.
Ilion Post had 19 hits in the game, including three each by Mike DeRollo, Jack Bono, Brady Hoffman, and Lucas Hartman. Hartman tripled, drove in four runs and scored twice, Shawn Capes had a single and a double, two runs and three RBI, Seth Capes and DeRollo, who also doubled, each drove in two runs, and DeRollo, Hoffman and Bono each scored three runs.
Kegan Kreager had three hits, two runs and two RBI for Roberts Post, Michael Benedetto had two runs and two RBI, Matt Dyer had two hits and drove in two runs, and Isaiah Zuchowski scored twice.
While the junior team was winning on the road, Ilion Post’s senior team lost 10-3 to Love Post of Boonville at Veterans Memorial Park in Little Falls.
The juniors played at Herkimer College Wednesday against Utica Post in a rematch from Monday.
