HERKIMER, N.Y. – Freshman Brendyn Stillman homered in both games Tuesday and the Herkimer College Generals opened the home portion of their 2018 schedule with a pair of victories over Schenectady County Community College.
The Generals (11-5) won 18-1 and 13-3 in the first two games of a series that concludes Thursday with a doubleheader in Schenectady’s Central Park.
Stillman had two hits in each game. He had three runs batted in and scored four runs in the opener, and drove in four runs and scored two in the nightcap. Now batting .455, Stillman has 13 of his team-leading 20 RBI in the Generals’ last three games.
Starter Ryan Flansburg struck out five batters and walked one in two hitless innings in the first game, and four Herkimer pitchers combined on a five-inning three-hitter with 13 strikeouts.
The Generals scored nine runs in the first inning and led 18-0 after three. Brian Forbes had a home run among his three hits and drove in six runs, Stephen Centorani had three hits and scored three runs, Little Falls High School graduate Kobe Jackson drove in four runs, Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville High School graduate Dylan Klock had two hits and two RBI, and Vito Castronovo and Joe Fichera, each had two hits, Fichera with two RBI and Castronovo with two runs.
Schenectady scored three runs in the top of the first inning to start the second game but Herkimer came back with seven in the bottom and added two more in the second inning. Jordan Zeppieri had two hits and two RBI, and scored three runs for the Generals, and Matt Parkinson and Michael Wroth each had two hits in game that ended with a run in the fifth inning that gave Herkimer the 10-run lead to put the NJCAA mercy rule in effect.
Herkimer takes a five-game winning streak – and seven wins in its last eight game – into Thursday’s doubleheader.
