MORRISVILLE — The nationally ranked Utica College men's hockey team scored three goals in the third period and beat Morrisville State College's Mustangs 4-1 on Friday night.

Coach Gary Heenan's Pioneers — ranked No. 8 by and No. 10 — improved to 11-3 overall.

Goaltender Patrik Virtanen made 21 saves, and Clinton's Gregg Burmaster recorded an assist in Utica's nonleague victory.

Anthony McVeigh gave Utica a 1-0 lead in the first period. Kevin Valenti and Roman Ammirato put UC up 3-0 in the third. After Morrisville (4-10-3) responded, Brett Everson's power-play goal gave Utica a three-goal advantage with 11 seconds remaining.

Utica will host Potsdam at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Adirondack Bank Center at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.

• Colgate held on to defeat ECAC foe Brown 2-1 in Providence. Josh McKechney and Trevor Cosgrove each scored a goal while Colton Point made 37 saves for the No. 19 Raiders (6-2-1, 10-7-4), who will visit Yale at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Women's Hockey

• Lauren Wildfang's goal 4:01 into the third period stood as the game-winner in Colgate's 3-2 win over Harvard in Hamilton. New Hartford's Annika Zalewski registered an assist for the No. 4 Raiders. Colgate improved to 9-2 in ECAC play and 18-3-1 overall. The Raiders, winners of three straight and now 10-0-1 on home ice, host Dartmouth at 3 p.m. Saturday.

• Elmira blanked United Collegiate Hockey Conference foe Utica College 5-0 in Pine Valley. Kelcey Crawford got the shutout with 13 saves while Sarah Hughson netted three goals for the Soaring Eagles (7-0, 11-2 overall), who are ranked No. 1 by and No. 3 by Bria Reilly stopped 32 shots for Utica (3-2, 7-6), which will host Elmira at 3 p.m. Saturday.

• Hamilton scored all four of its goals in the second period, defeating NESCAC rival Trinity 4-0 at Russell Sage Rink. Sam Walther made 16 saves in the shutout while Maddie Beitler scored two goals for the Continentals (5-0, 7-3-1), who will host Trinity (0-7, 2-9) again at 3 p.m. Saturday.
