Shining a light on grief

I recently attended a two-day conference hosted by The Good News Center at the Radisson Hotel in Utica. I found nearly 200 registrations to be a remarkable success!

"Navigating Through Grief – Help, Hope, Healing" workshops gave opportunity to shine light on and gain a greater understanding to the mysterious nature of grief.

The workshops were interactive to encourage questions and dialogue.

During lunch, the group was alive with conversations of new awareness. Attendees ranged from funeral directors and professionals working with people grieving to those experiencing grief. There were over 25 presenters, local as well as national, speaking on a number of areas relating to grief.

I witnessed and experienced through the presenters how grief can take a person from their darkest moments toward another side with deeper relationships and a greater sense of life meaning or purpose.

Until the next opportunity, there is support locally for those grieving by contacting:

- The Good News Center at www.thegoodnewscenter.org for those with a death of any loved one.

- The Compassionate Friends at www.tcfmohawkvalley.org supporting family after a child dies.

- Hospice & Palliative Care at www.hospicecareinc.org for list of dates in support after the death of a loved one.
