Lenarcic column good history lesson
In reading the July 4 Guest View by Ray Lenarcic, I got a bit more educated on the history of our country.
I was reminded of the fact that over 350,000 men in blue died and an estimated 300,000 thousand were wounded during the Civil War. I had never heard of the Union POW camp at Andersonville, Georgia, until last year when we went to Plains, Georgia. Andersonville was only a short distance from Plains so we visited there.
I had never heard of the Sultana that was a paddle wheel steamer used to transport people and goods up and down the Mississippi. It is so very sad that these 2,500 POWs on their way home went instead to their final resting place in the bosom of the Mississippi River. It is truly the "Untold Civil War."
49er QB's actions disrespect America
The recent action of San Francisco 49ers' quarterback Colin Kaepernick was totally uncalled for! It was disrespectful to our flag, our country and the men and women who paid the ultimate price to give him the right to do so.
Was it really necessary to stoop to such behavior in order to make his point?
America ... love it, or leave it!
