Read for the Record

Schools, libraries, museums, and other organizations help bring Jumpstart’s Read for the Record alive in communities around the world. Read for the Record is an opportunity to rally your library and the Smyrna community around the importance of high-quality early learning experiences.

The best part about Read for the Record is that everyone is invited to join in! We will be reading aloud, engaging in some fun activities, and enjoying refreshments at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7. This year the official campaign book is “Thank You, Omu!” by Oge Mora.

It is a Caldecott Honor Book, and Oge Mora is the winner of the Coretta Scott King / John Steptoe New Talent Illustrator Award. Our library’s copy came through our subscription to the Junior Library Guild and can be checked out after the program.

From the dust jacket of “Thank You, Omu!:” MMMMM … What could possibly smell so yummy? Everyone in the neighborhood dreams of a taste of Omu’s delicious stew! One by one, they follow their noses toward the scrumptious scent. And one by one, Omu offers a portion of her meal.

Soon the pot is empty. Has she been so generous that she has nothing left for herself?

Debut author-illustrator Oge Mora brings a heart-warming story of sharing and community to life in colorful cut-paper designs as luscious as Omu’s stew, with an extra serving of love.

The library is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday; 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.
