The Hamilton Public Library is now offering a free after school program for kids of all ages! This program will encourage play and creativity in a safe environment, while providing academic support for learners of all abilities! There will be homework help from a Hamilton Central School high school student, crafts and activities from the library, games, snacks, and of course, reading time!
The program started this week, but it’s not too late to sign up your child. Provided the library and school are open, the group will meet from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Parents are responsible for making travel arrangements for their children, and contacting the schools if they are not taking the bus.
To sign up, contact the library either by phone at the number below or in person. For more details, ask for Diana Cassulis.
Normally, that would be an exciting enough program to advertise here, but we have ANOTHER really neat club forming, NaNoWriMo! Short for National Novel Writing Month, which happens to be the month of November, the library is participating by inviting any aspiring writers to make a commitment to write every day for one calendar month! And it’s not even a 31-day month, it’s one of the shorter ones!
So how does it work? How can you participate? Well, every day, each participant is asked to record 1,666 words. Weekly, you’ll be up to 11,666 words, and then by the end of November you’ll have written 50,000! By writing, you can get entered to win prizes and have fun getting creative!
This is not limited to any specific age (kids can set their own goals) or writing type. The kickoff party for this event is from 5-6 p.m. Oct. 28. At the kickoff party, FoJo Beans will offer some limited coffee and refreshments. There are no signups for this event or program, but if you have any questions, you know where to find us!
Thank you for reading and see you at the library!
