UTICA — A 71-year-old West Carthage man was sentenced Tuesday morning in Oneida County Court for the May 8 robbery of Berkshire Bank in Oriskany Falls.
Walter C. Parker, known as a serial bank robber, was sentenced to 10 years determinate custody with five years post-release supervision, according to court records. He pleaded guilty to second-degree robbery on Aug. 27.
Parker was arrested May 24 and charged with second-degree robbery and second-degree criminal use of a firearm. Officials said he allegedly entered Berkshire Bank earlier in May and demanded money while displaying what appeared to be a handgun. He fled on foot onto Main Street with an undetermined amount of money, authorities said. Clothing recovered from the robbery allowed authorities to match his DNA to prior arrests.
Parker had committed more than five burglaries throughout New York in 2004, though none occurred in Oneida County, according to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office.
