ILION — Mason Maley and Kaydence Zimmerman, third-graders at Barringer Road Elementary School in Ilion, will have photos displayed of ceramic sculptures they created during the New York State School Boards Association conference in Rochester Oct. 24 and 25.
The purpose of the exhibit is to highlight visual art achievement in schools across the state.
Mason and Kaydence created the pieces as part of a sculpture lesson with art teacher Nancie Cooney’s class. Students studied artist Edgar Degas, learning how to create a three-dimensional figure that was in proportion and showed evidence of movement.
This year’s exhibit will feature more than 150 works from students in 32 school districts. The display space is limited to two-dimensional work, so Cooney submitted the photographs, instead.
