Stevens-Swan Humane Society desperately needs to find a permanent home or foster for Carl.

He has been with the shelter for almost 3 years and his health is starting to deteriorate. He is about 9 or 10 years old and has advanced arthritis. Some days he has a very hard time getting up. He is on pain medication and Dasuquin to help with this.

Carl was turned in to the shelter with his son and daughter in pretty rough shape. Their health was poor and their bodies scarred. His daughter has since been adopted, and his son, King, still is with us. Carl does not get along with his son at all and we assume their scars are from fighting each other. Carl does need to be the only animal in the home. We have not seen him around children.

Carl is a gentle soul and is very loved by shelter staff members, who all have other animals in their homes and are unable to take him. He has always been very quiet and well behaved. The shelter does not think that Carl has ever had a shred of a normal life. His tail has never wagged much and he always seems kind of depressed.

The shelter does it's best to keep him happy and show him love every day, but it’s not the same as having his own home and family.

We have no idea how much longer Carl has on this earth and the shelter wants him to be able to have his own family and have their full attention and love for the rest of his days, however long that may be. For all we know, that could be exactly what he needs to get him up and moving.

Carl deserves a much better life than he was dealt. Please help to make his remaining time amazing.

Carl’s adoption fee has been sponsored. He is current on vaccines, microchipped and neutered. If you think you can help Carl or have any questions about him, call the shelter at 315-738-4357 or stop by to visit at 5664 Horatio St. in Utica.
