NEW YORK MILLS — Renee Leininger did not have the opportunity to help plan her daughter’s wedding many years ago, so she got into the wedding planning business.

Leininger explained that her only a child — a daughter — was in the military when she got married. Her daughter and son-in-law were married at their air base, which was out of state.

“If I can’t plan your wedding, I’m going to go back to New York to plan everyone else’s,” Leininger said she told her daughter.

Leininger has made a 20-year career out of it. On Sunday, she was hosting a bridal show at the Roselawn Banquet Facility in New York Mills, where she has hosted such events for the past five years.

There were 20 vendors at Sunday’s event, which Leininger said was about the usual number. The vendors covered every aspect of a wedding, from a DJ to a photo booth to formal wear and more.

Leininger met attendees near the entrance of Roselawn, checking them in and giving the guests — who were mostly brides-to-be and family members — a sticker announcing they were engaged.

One attendee was Nicole Denigro, who attended the event with her family and the mother of her fiancé Noah Hopson.

“We need a DJ, primarily, and a photo booth,” Denigro said.

Denigro said she and Hopson got engaged August 26, 2018. The couple already has their date and venue picked — October 10, 2020 (10-10-20) at Vernon Downs.

“(It’s) stressful, but fun,” Denigro said about wedding planning, noting that she works full time and also is a full-time graduate student.
