UTICA – The Utica Police Department said a car accident caused parts of North Genesee Street to close Saturday afternoon.

The road was still closed as of 6:30 p.m., with police directing northbound traffic through Harbor Lake Road.

The accident was concurrent with a power outage reported by National Grid, which listed over 500 customers without electricity in the area at roughly 2:10 p.m.

The areas without power included North Genesee Street to Thomas Jefferson Elementary School. It also includes parts of Leland, Auert and Wurz avenues.

Power was expected to be restored by 4:15 p.m. As of 6:30 p.m., no power outages were listed on the National Grid website.
