With a 4-3 win at Princeton Sunday, Jan. 6, the Colgate men’s hockey program completed a weekend sweep in ECAC Hockey action defeating Quinnipiac 5-4 Saturday.
Tyler Penner gave the Raiders a 1-0 lead just 59 seconds into the game which was answered by Princeton on a power play later in the period. But the Raiders quickly responded taking a 2-1 lead into the second period.
With under five minutes to go before the horn of the stanza, John Snodgrass tapped in his first goal of the season to tie the game at 2-2.
After a fairly slow start to the third period, Colgate ambushed the Princeton net when it took advantage of a tie up at the crease. Jeff Stewart slid in to tuck the puck past the toe of Princeton’s netminder for his third goal in the last four games.
Colgate’s advantage on the scoreboard increased when Bobby McMann dodged the defenders and made it a 4-2 game with 8:02 remaining in regulation. Although Princeton scored just 30 seconds later, the goal stood as the eventual game-winner.
Freshman goaltender Mitch Benson tallied 30-plus saves for the eighth time this season, posting 31 saves in the game.
Colgate returns to the Class of 1965 Arena Jan. 11 and 12 when it hosts UMass Lowell in the final nonconference series of the season.
