UTICA — A trial for Jacob Penree originally scheduled for January 9 was ultimately not needed, according to Utica City Court information.

Penree pleaded guilty to second-degree harassment on Dec. 5. He was ordered to pay $250 restitution and perform 50 hours of community service, court records indicate.

Previously, Penree, a member of the Utica Police Department for 10 years, was charged with misdemeanor third-degree assault following a May 12 physical altercation that involved punching and kicking another individual causing injuries.

Penree was off-duty at the time of the incident.

A spokesperson confirmed Penree is still employed with the department.
