NEW HARTFORD — A New York Mills man faces a felony charge following a report of a larceny at Walmart, New Hartford police said.

At about 8 p.m Thursday, police responded to the store for a report of a man switching price tags of several pieces of merchandise.

The suspect — Christopher Countryman, 36 — then proceeded to the self checkout, where he scanned the wrong barcodes in order purchase items at a significantly reduced price, police said.

When he left the store, he was confronted by Walmart security.

Countryman was charged with felony falsifying business records and misdemeanor petit larceny and released on an appearance ticket, officials said.
