The Sherburne-Earlville boys soccer team hosted the Red Raiders of Canastota in a league match Wednesday, Oct. 3. Prior to the start of the game, the Marauders honored their seniors.

It was fitting that on senior night, the Marauders were led by their seniors in a 3-0 victory. Senior Edward Geier recorded two goals, and senior Owen Rodriguez rounded out the scoring for the Marauders.

Conor Ryan had three saves in goal

The Marauders faced the Adirondack Wildcats the next day in league play which ended in a 2-2 tie after overtime.

S-E took the lead first as Geier continued his great run of play by scoring off a rebounded save by the Wildcat goalie. The 1-0 score held through half time.

The second half saw the Wildcats defense making life difficult for the Marauders, blocking all shots and scoring two goals to take the lead with five minutes of play left.

The Marauder offense applied constant pressure leading to an errant pass that Rodriguez picked up and put away to tie the game.

The overtime period was a wide open end-to-end action that almost saw the Marauders pull it out in the final seconds. Rodriguez broke through the Wildcat defense and from 18 yards out took a blistering shot that was saved as the goalie dove to his left, preserving the tie for Adirondack.

Ryan recorded five saves in goal for S-E.

The tie qualifies the Marauders for sectional play with three games remaining in their schedule.
