CAMDEN —A Connecticut woman reported missing with suicidal thoughts was listed in critical condition Wednesday after wrecking her vehicle, state police said.

At about noon, a trooper attempted to check on a vehicle that was stopped in the middle of the intersection of Oswego and Church streets impeding traffic, police said.

As the trooper approached the female driver — later identified as Michelle Pierce, 41, of Stratford — she accelerated down Oswego Street, police said.

The trooper then returned to his vehicle and began to travel north on Oswego Street, and as he rounded a curve in the road, he saw Pierce's vehicle crash into a utility pole in front of the Camden Elementary School parking lot, officials said.

Pierce was airlifted by Mercy Flight to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, where she was listed in critical condition, officials said.

The investigation is continuing.

State police were assisted by the Village of Camden Police Department, Oneida County Sheriff's Office, Camden Fire Department and North Shore Ambulance.
