ROME -- One person suffered a minor injury in a military helicopter accident late Thursday night, according to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office.
Rome firefighters and AmCare ambulance responded shortly after 11 p.m. to Griffiss after initial reports that a helicopter had struck the tower.
A minor injury was reported by one of the helicopter passengers, officials said, and that person was treated at a local hospital for non life-threatening injuries.
The sheriff's office provided scene security throughout the night time hours, officials said.
The scene was turned over to the U.S. Military so that they can conduct a thorough investigation, officials said, with no more available information at this time.
In a short news release sent out by authorities early this morning, there was no mention of whether the aircraft was in air or on ground when the collision happened.
Check back as officials release more information.
