The competition team of The Spot Dance Center of Hamilton has been active in the 2017-18 season. Under the leadership of director Jacquie Babcock, the team has traveled to The Stanley Theatre in Utica, the Hall of Fame Competition in the Niagara Falls Convention Center, the OCC SRC Arena in Syracuse, and finally to Liverpool for the Access Broadway Competition. Hundreds of dance acts compete at each of these competitions, representing dozens of dance centers from all over the United States and Canada.

The team consists of three age groups, each competing on their own, with the two older groups combining to compete together as a bigger team. Each group scored well in all competitions. In addition, the center featured solo competitor Mercedes Hayes and duo competitors Mercedes and Sarah Rogers, who also represented themselves and the studio well.

The Liverpool competition was the weekend of May 18-20 and the youngest age group “danced away” with first place. The group included Laila Babcock, MarieRose Cesaire, Quinn Graves, and Khloey Morgan.

The combined older two groups - Rebecca Alston, Fiona Dosanjh, Maddy Merkt, Olivia Parker, Madelin Spellicy, Dalaney Graves, Lexie Lollman, Morgan Briggs, Jenna Smith, Sarah Rogers, and Mercedes Hayes - were awarded Platinum level at Liverpool for their performance of the music theater number entitled “Opening Up.” Director Babcock was nominated for a choreographer award for the number.

This same group finished fourth overall out of 33 acts in their Junior Dance Group Debut Division.
