Village elections

The village of Hamilton will hold a General Village Election from noon to 9 p.m. June 19 in the meeting room of the Hamilton Public Library. Positions to be voted on include two 2-year village trustee positions and one 4-year village justice position. Candidates include Democrats Russell Lura, 73 Hamilton St., and Sean Nevison, 18 East Pleasant St.; Lura and Nevison are also running on the Good Government line.


A General Village Election for the village of Morrisville will also be held at the Eaton Town Office, 35 Cedar St., Morrisville. Candidates for the two 4-year village trustee terms include Michael Higgins (Friendly Neighbor candidate), 63 Cedar St., and Judy Scholefield (Family Values), 6 Cedar St.


Father’s Day Breakfast

The annual Hamilton Business Alliance/Hamilton Rotary Club Father’s Day Breakfast will be held from 8 a.m. to noon June 17 at Hamilton Central School. Note the change in location from previous years. Proceeds will help support HBA economic initiatives and its HCS Entrepreneurship Scholarship, as well as Rotary service projects.



Road closure

A section of Poolville Road between Smith Road and Hamilton Road in the town of Hamilton is closed for a culvert replacement. It is expected that the project should take three to four weeks to complete before the road reopens. The traveling public is encouraged to follow detour/road closure signs as they are posted.


Hustle for the Hospital

Community Memorial Hospital’s Hustle for the Hospital Fun Run and Walk will be held at 8 a.m. Sunday, June 17, at Hamilton Central School. The $10 entry fee includes a pancake breakfast, raffles and more. Walkers are welcome. Proceeds from the event will benefit Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Driving class

An AARP Smart Driver Course will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 28 and 29 at the Hamilton Public Library; attendance is required both days to become available for credit. Pre-registration is required; call 315-824-3060 or stop by the library to register.

Can drive

The Madison Central School boys basketball team will hold a bottle and can drive from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16, at the school. Proceeds will be used for attendance at the St. Lawrence University Basketball Team Camp. For pickup, call Coach Dan Mitchell at 315-796-3149.


Breakfast buffet

The MCS International Club will hold a Father’s Day Breakfast Buffet from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16, at the Hotel Solsville. Takeouts will be available. Proceeds will benefit the club’s 2019 trip to Puerto Rico. See related story for more details.



Pancake breakfast

The Mid-York Pop Warner Football & Cheerleading Program will hold a pancake breakfast fundraiser from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, June 24, at the Morrisville Fire Department, 50 East Main St. in Morrisville. Email midyorkpanthers@gmail.com for more information or to purchase a ticket in advance.



Historic talk

The Lebanon Historical Society will host a special presentation by railroad historian John Taibi entitled “Lebanon’s Railroad” at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16, in the Lebanon Community Center. All are welcome; the center (the old railroad station) is located at 5370 Lebanon Rd. in the hamlet of Lebanon.



Support group

The Madison County Office for the Aging will hold a support group for caregivers at 10 a.m. Friday, June 15. Rabies clinic

A rabies clinic, sponsored by the Madison County Health Department, will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, Town of Eaton Highway Garage, 35 Cedar St., Morrisville. Public Health Law requires all dogs, cats, and ferrets be vaccinated by 4 months of age. Remember to bring previous vaccination records. Vaccinations are free for Madison County residents; voluntary donations of $5 per animal are appreciated to help defray clinic costs. Local government

Madison Town Board, 7 p.m., June 14, town office, located in the village hall. Agenda includes a 7 p.m. public hearing regarding the Land Use Regulations with an amendment to the local law to change setback regulations and create a flag lot definition. A vote to adopt the regulations will follow the hearing; the regulations can be seen at the town clerk’s office during regular business hours.

Hamilton Village Board of Trustees, 6 p.m., June 19, courthouse, Montgomery Street. The agenda includes a public hearing to discuss the community and economic development needs of the village and the potential submission of an application to the New York State Office of Community Renewal for Community Development Block Grant funding to support a Microenterprise Grant program.
