“A Community of Stars” is the theme for this year’s Fourth of July Parade in Hamilton.
The first star being recognized is Dr. Ivan Gowan who will serve as the grand marshal for this year's parade. Gowan graduated from Colgate and returned to the area in 1984 to found the Hamilton Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine Center. Thousands of people have received treatment at the center since its inception.
Gowan has served as the chief of Surgery, president and vice president of the Community Memorial Hospital medical staff, and as a member of the hospital board. Gowan recently retired after 34 years at CMH and the Fourth of July Committee thanks him for the difference he has made in the community.
Dr. Richard Cohen was nominated by Terry Tanner. Cohen has been providing care in the Hamilton area since 1974, longer than any local physician. He is a member of the medical staff of Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton where he has served both as its medical staff president, and as a member of its board of directors.
Cohen is also a valued Fourth of July volunteer and his assistance in the lineup area and getting the parade off to a start is invaluable. Thank you to Dr. Cohen for being a star.
