VERONA -- Officials are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on the Interstate 90 westbound, half mile west of Exit 33, according to the New York State Police.

An investigation revealed that at about 2:30 a.m., a 2002 Toyota Solara, with four occupants, was disabled and stopped with its hazard lights activated along the shoulder of the roadway, officials said.

The driver, Arthur L. Hunter, 26, of Syracuse, was outside the vehicle attempting to make mechanical repairs when a 2018 Freightliner Box Truck drifted off the roadway and struck their vehicle from the rear, police said.

Hunter was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said, the three male passengers, ages 17, 18 and 19, were transported to SUNY Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse with minor injuries.

The driver of the box truck, Remus J. Parish, 42, of Cleveland, was transported to Oneida Healthcare Facility for minor injuries, police said, and was issued a ticket for moving from lane unsafely, a violation.

The investigation is ongoing, officials said.
