HERKIMER — A Herkimer man is facing burglary charges Wednesday after police conducted a home invasion investigation, according to the Herkimer Police Department.

On March 5, officers were called to a residence on North Caroline Street for a report of a male forcing entry and assaulting the home owner, officials said.

Officials said the officers were met by the victim who was bleeding from a head wound received during the attack and later interviewed several neighbors and collected evidence from within the home.

The details of this incident were very similar to a previous incident at this address in September 2017 where someone made entry and had stolen several items from the residence, officials said.

During the course of the investigation, Jonathan McNair, 33, became a person of interest and was interviewed Wednesday, admitting to committing both burglaries.

He was arrested and charged with the following:

• Two counts of third-degree criminal mischief

• First- and second-degree burglary

• Second-degree assault

• Petit larceny

McNair was processed and arraigned in Town of German Flatts Court and sent to the Herkimer County Correctional Facility on no bail, as he has several prior felony convictions, officials said.
