HERKIMER — The Herkimer County Hunger Coalition recently honored Frankfort Kiwanis President Bill Evans with a Beacon of Light award for his many philanthropic contributions and club leadership.
Evans, owner of Big Willy's Pizza, has donated his cuisine and dollars to numerous area activities over the years, according to a news release. Most recently, he organized Operation Replenish. He also presided over the club's annual basketball fundraiser featuring games between Frankfort-Schuyler faculty members and Kiwanians, junior vs. senior classes and three-point shot competition. The event, chaired by Gary Caiola, raised $800 for the Ilion-Frankfort Food Pantry.
The Kiwanians also participated in the Gram Lorraine Children's Christmas Program. The Angelo Riente Chapter sponsored 25 children, spending $2,600 for clothing and gifts for local children. The Frankfort-Schuyler Central Builders and Key Clubs did the wrapping.
"There is no more generous and gregarious person in this area than Bill ‘Sheriff’ Evans who presides over one of the most charitable service organizations in the country," said Ray Lenarcic, coalition founder, in an email.
