The Morrisville State College western equestrian riding team had five riders advance to the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) National Semifinals later in March, finishing as one of the top two riders in their respective class at the Regional Championships held recently at the Mustangs riding arena on Swamp Road in Morrisville.
Morrisville also had two claim the Regional Crown, including Mikaela Cormier in the novice western horsemanship class, as well as Lea Inhaber-Courchesne in the intermediate II western horsemanship class.
Cormier topped the field of three as the blue ribbon champion, and Inhaber-Courchesne was victor out of a competing class that included 13 total riders.
Alongside the two champions, Blacey Bakutis also advanced to the semifinals with her second place ride in the open western horsemanship class, as well as Alysha Hardy in the novice western horsemanship class.
The final slot for the Mustangs was claimed by Elyse Scott who was the regional runner-up in the intermediate II class.
The semifinals will take place March 17 and 18 in Hamburg, New York, for an opportunity to compete on the national level at the finals in May in Harrisburg.
