Visiting Morrisville State College women’s hockey capped off the 2017-18 season with an appearance in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III tournament Saturday, March 20, falling to host Norwich University by a final 8-2 in Northfield, Vermont.

They conclude their season at 17-8-3 overall, while Norwich advances to the Frozen Four for a second straight year.

Alexziz Giannamore was first to strike on the day, netting the top shelf tally midway through the opening period off the pass from Jessica Ujcik and Kimberly Hughes, giving Morrisville State the 1-0 advantage.

That was short-lived, however, as the number one ranked Norwich Cadets rattled off three straight scores to claim the 3-1 lead after the first period.

They extended their lead to six with a four goal spurt in the second period, entering the final frame leading 6-1.

Morrisville State notched another on the board just under a minute into the final frame, as Shanley Austin put away the puck off the dish from Chyne Kennedy and Kaitlyn Schlake.

Norwich added one final score midway through, though, earning the 8-2 victory and advancement in the tournament.

Karoline Arvik wrapped up her inaugural season with 31 stops in net in the loss.

Norwich advances to face the winner of Hamline and Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Saturday, March 16 in their home arena, as host site of the semifinals and national final.
