The Madison girls varsity basketball team defeated rival Stockbridge Valley 61-41 Monday, Feb. 5, in Madison.

The Devils held SVCS to just six points in the first period while scoring 18 of their own on the way to the 35-20 halftime lead. Another single digit quarter for the Cougars in the third (12-5) was just enough for Madison to pull further ahead for the 20-point Central Counties League victory.

Madison’s Kayla Usborne finished with the game high 24 points, while teammate Jordan Mayne added 10. Also scoring were Braelynn Merrill (7), MaryEllen Coleman (6), Christa Usborne (5), and Kierston Abrams (3). Finishing with two apiece were Kayla Still, Baileigh Strong and Ashley Mayne.

SVCS was led by Ashleigh Staudt and Jillian Jacobs with 17 and 15, respectively. Hannah Greene added seven and Alaine Beane tossed in two.

Madison closed out its regular season with a 55-15 CCL win over visiting McGraw.

K. Usborne led MCS with 20 points, while Emily Fish paced the Eagles with 10 in the Devils’ regular season closing game victory over visiting McGraw Friday, Feb. 9.
