Area residents are invited help celebrate Seuss stories old and new – including “The Lorax” – as part of Seuss Saturday in Hamilton. The March 3 festivities will feature a variety of activities for all ages at different times and locations throughout the village. Come to just one, or come to them all! Admission to the day’s programs and activities is free.
“Where is The Lorax?” — The Lorax will be visiting different local businesses until March 2 as he gets ready to celebrate Seuss Saturday. Stop by the Hamilton Public Library each week to look for clues about where he’s been and write down your best guess. If you guess correctly, your name will be entered into a Friday drawing to win a Dr. Seuss book from the Colgate Bookstore. Four books will be given away and you can participate once every week to try to track that elusive Lorax as he makes his way around town!
Seuss Saturday’s events begin at 10:30 a.m. March 3 when RuthAnn Loveless, mayor of Hamilton, will kick off the celebrations by making a public declaration establishing Seuss Saturday 2018 at the Hamilton Library. A special story time will follow the proclamation to celebrate Seuss and share his story of “The Lorax.”
The Hamilton Theater, 7 Lebanon St., will offer a free showing of the 2012 comedy “The Lorax,” at 11:30 a.m. This free showing is sponsored by Dr. Devan R. Berry, DDS. While you’re at the theater, don’t forget to order some Hop on Pop popcorn and celebrate Rogers Environmental Education Center’s 50th anniversary with special birthday treats. Friends from Rogers will also present a brief talk on the importance of being kind to trees.
The day continues with crafts, sponsored by the Friends of Rogers, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the third floor events room at the Colgate Bookstore. All Dr. Seuss books and toys will be available for 30 percent off.
The afternoon comes to a close from 3 to 3:30 p.m. with a live-action storytelling of “The Lorax” in The Underground at Arts at the Palace, also known as the Palace Theater, in downtown Hamilton. Visitors can take photos in a Seussical photo booth, design kindness rocks and just enjoy the show.
