Update: A hearing originally scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19 has been moved to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26 due to the Presidents Day holiday. The updated story is below.

UTICA — The Utica Common Council Finance Committee will be conducting departmental budget hearings throughout this month.

The goal of these meetings is to explore the needs of each department and how to best give them the tools they need to provide the maximum service to residents of Utica in the most cost effective way, according to a news release from Finance Committee Chairman Joe Marino.

On Thursday, there will be three of these hearings, starting at 4:30 p.m. for the City Clerk’s office, 5 p.m. for the Civil Service Department and 6 p.m. for the Assessors’ Office.

The mayor’s office hearing will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, with the comptroller’s meeting at 5:30 p.m. and the codes department at 6:30 p.m.

On Feb. 22, there will be three hearings, at 4:30 p.m. for the Engineering department, 5 p.m. for facilities and IT, and 6 p.m. for the Law Department.

On Feb. 26, there will be a meeting at 4:30 p.m. for the Economic Development Department and at 5:30 p.m. for the Department of Public Works and Parks and Recreation.

Lastly, the Utica Fire Department budget hearing will be at 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 27 and the Utica Police Department will be at 5:30 p.m.
