Young Women in Public Affairs Award applications available
Applications for the 2018 Young Women in Public Affairs Award (YWPA) are now available from the Zonta Club of Oneida Area by contacting the high school guidance counselors for Oneida, Canastota, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, Stockbridge Valley and Holy Cross Academy.
The goal of this award is to encourage young women to participate in public and political life by recognizing a young woman’s involvement in government, policy-making and volunteerism.
To be eligible for this award, applicants must have an active commitment to volunteerism, leadership achievements and experience in local or student government. The YWPA program looks to the young women of today for the leaders of tomorrow and advocates the Zonta International’s mission of advancing the status of women worldwide.
Applications are due to the Zonta Club of Oneida Area by Friday, Feb. 23. The winner will be selected in late February. Applicants must be pre-university or pre-college students ages 16-19.
This award is monetary and is funded by the Zonta Club of Oneida Area. A local recipient will receive $500 and will be entered to compete for the District YWPA Award of $1,000. The district recipient will be eligible to be selected to receive one of the five international scholarships of $3,000 each from Zonta International.
Thank you for …s upport of food pantry
A very special thank you to Boscov’s and to everyone who supported the Angel Tree that Boscov’s sponsored for Grace Church and St. Margaret’s Food Pantry. Together, our efforts provided more than 50 presents from toys to winter coats to individuals who may have otherwise gone without during this holiday season. If you were one of the angels, please know that your kindness was greatly appreciated and truly made a difference to someone.
Cheryl Rossi-Walczak, parish administrator and director of St. Margaret’s Food Pantry
