It was a close contest but, after carefully finalizing the results, the winners in the Mid-York Weekly’s first pet calendar contest has been determined.

Finishing in first place with 1,560 votes and earning the cover spot of our 2018 Pet of the Year calendar is Jett, owned by Barbara and Franz Tilke of Hamilton. Jett, a 7-year-old miniature schnauzer, will also appear as the January Pet of the Month

According to Barb, Jett has a pretty busy lifestyle as a certified therapy dog. Jett and Barb make visits to assisted living facilities in the Hamilton area as well as near their winter home in South Carolina. Barb is also a certified dog bite prevention educator and the two present lessons for children from age 3 to 10, teaching them about dog body language, safe and unsafe actions around dogs, and more.

“He’s very friendly unless he has on his special collar and has been told he’s ‘going to work.’ Then he’s all business,” Barb said.

Jett also has movie credits as he appeared in “The 12 Dog Days of Christmas” in Conway, South Carolina.

“I’d also like to send a thank you to Top Dog in Clinton who groomed him so he’d look his best when we came to your office for the picture,” she added.

Finishing just 30 votes behind Jett was Ferdi with 1,530 votes, owned by Faye Babcock of Hamilton who, along with the other top 11 entries will also be Pets of the Month and will appear in full color in the calendar.
