How would you like to take a trip down an imperfect Memory Lane?
Lee and I moved to Smyrna in 1968. At the time, Leola, better known as Lee, and Joe Marino owned the Smyrna Restaurant. It was an old fashioned neighborhood bar. Popular! Joe served only beer and no liqueur and also served good food. When he decided to retire, he sold his establishment to Marilyn Kovak. She had a good business, and then the Holcombs did business for a while before Kathy and Hobe took it over.
Times changed and Dee and Butch Manwarren purchased it and ran it for a while. Remember this happened over a period of several years and my memory banks aren't perfect. Where does all this lead? Kathy Kovak Sweet went to heaven Nov. 8, according to the obituary I read. Hobe had predeceased her. She was in the senior extended care at the Norwich Hospital. Our deepest sympathy to son Ron, mom Marilyn, and her extended family and friends.
Christmas parties are in full swing. I was lucky to be invited to one at the Poolville Country Store. Mr. Marshall was the host and I was Shirley Swayze's guest. Lucky me!! The food was delicious! Can't say more than that. The chef is great and, of course, dessert was the perfect capper to the evening. Yum! It’s hard to remember that it really was a country store with all kinds of things for sale. But things they are changing all the time.
Bird report: We have lots of little birds coming to the front feeder. Lee just put up one in the Rose of Sharon tree in the back yard. A blue jay came to visit. The different birds will discover the buffet sooner than later and we will have two windows to watch now for all our feathered friends.
