Eleven-year-old Maxwell Sykes of Oriskany Falls recently donated a 13 Star Flag to the General Herkimer Home Museum, the Georgian-style mansion that was the home to Revolutionary War hero, General Nicholas Herkimer. The home was built in 1764 by Herkimer, who died there in 1777 from wounds suffered in the Battle of Oriskany. He is also buried there.

Max, the son of Paul and Tina Sykes and a sixth grade student at Madison Central School, is very interested in the Revolutionary War and has visited many forts in the state of New York.

He spoke to the director of the General Herkimer Home, Michael Roets, who is also the director of the Lorenzo State Historic Site in Cazenovia, when he delivered the flag Thursday, Nov. 9. Roets was very happy to see how much Max knows about the Revolutionary War and encouraged him to continue his visits.
