The Sherburne Community Chorus will present “Glorious Sounds of Winter,” a holiday concert, at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, at the Sherburne United Church of Christ, located on the corner of routes 12 and 80 in Sherburne.
The chorus is under the direction of Anne Caton and accompanied by Rosemary Jaytanie and the Sherburne Community Chorus Chamber Ensemble.
The first half of the concert will be a celebration of 50 years of Sherburne Music Theater Society’s favorite stage productions with selections from musicals like “The Sound of Music,” “Shenandoah,” “Finian’s Rainbow,” and “Camelot” along with others. These songs will be performed by chorus and theater society members. The second act will feature the community chorus singing old and new holiday and seasonal pieces, ranging from Handel to Walt Disney World’s “Glow” from World of Color Winter Dreams. These selections will offer something for everyone.
The Sherburne Community Chorus is a well-known regional singing organization that was established in 1969 by Wilbur “Red” Raville and was under his directorship until his retirement in 2013. The chorus is a volunteer group of dedicated vocalists from all across the Chenango Valley area. Over the years, the group has provided dozens of concerts to the Central New York area showcasing some of the most celebrated and renowned choral works.
All are welcome; a reception in the church parlor will follow. A free will offering will be accepted at the door.
