HEAP and outreach programs begin

Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency (MVCAA) will be accepting applications for the 2017-2018 Home Energy Assistance Program, known as HEAP, at its Rome and Utica locations through December and at five locations in western and northern Oneida County.

Regular application dates for the program started Nov. 13 and will run through March 15. Emergency applications start Jan. 2, and end March 15.

Those interested should make an appointment at MVCAA in Rome, 203 Liberty Street, or call 315-624-9930.

In Utica, people applying for this program are encouraged to visit 1100 Miller St. or call 315-624-9930. Both offices are open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Outreach sessions will accept regular applications on the following dates and locations:

• Boonville Town Hall: from 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5.

• North Bay Town Hall: from 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays, Nov. 15 and Dec. 6.

• Camden Town Hall: from 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5.

• Oriskany Municipal Building: from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursdays, Nov. 16 and Dec. 7.

• Oriskany Falls Village Hall: from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, and from noon to 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8.

• Remsen Village Hall: from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays, Nov. 15 and Dec. 6.

HEAP assists eligible households with heating costs, along with heat-related utility costs and repairs or replacements of applicant-owned heating equipment. Most households receiving Temporary Assistance or Food Stamps will automatically receive HEAP payments and only need to apply if their payment is not received or in the event of an emergency.

UTICA

Pie drive for Mother Marianne Westside Kitchen

The Knights of St. John is conducting its annual Thanksgiving pie drive and seeks donations from the community.

All donated pies may be dropped off from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, at the Knights of St. John home, corner of Varick and Court streets, across from the F.X. Matt Brewing Co.

The pies will be served at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church Mother Marianne Westside Kitchen's Thanksgiving Day dinner.

ONEIDA

Pre-licensing, defensive driving classes offered

Holy Cross Academy, 4020 Barrington Road, offers a New York state five-hour pre-licensing class to the community on the last Saturday of every month.

The next class will take place at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25.

A Defensive Driving Class, which reduces insurance costs, will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2.

The cost for each class is $35 if pre-registered, and $40 at the door.

A valid Driver’s Permit is required.

CLINTON

Tickets available for 'The Nutcracker'

"The Nutcracker" presented by the Kirkland Art Center and Center Stage Dance Studio will be performed at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, at the Clinton Performing Arts Complex, 75 Chenango Ave.

Advance sale tickets are $12 general admission and $8 for children ages 12 and younger. Tickets at the door are $15 general admission and $10 for children ages 12 and younger.
