SCHUYLER — One of two burglars who robbed a Schuyler home Friday posed as a town employee in order to gain access to the residence, state police said.
Police say a man knocked on the door of a Mapleton Drive home at about 2 p.m. Friday and told the resident he worked for the town and needed to check the water pressure.
The man then asked the resident to accompany him into the basement and run a wash cyclce on the washing machine, police said.
While the first suspect and the homeowner were downstairs, a second man entered the home and stole property from an upstairs bedroom, police said.
The first suspect spoke broken English and may have been of Spanish descent, police said.
he suspects may have been using a tan van.

Residents are reminded not to open the door for strangers and to call companies to verify ID before granting access to people claiming to be employees.
