A Rome man has been charged with having sexual contact with a female child under 14 years of age, according to the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center.

Deputies said Friday that Jayme Shalna, 45, was charged with second-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors. He was arraigned in Rome City Court and was sent to the Oneida County Correctional Facility on $2,000 bail.

The victim has been offered counseling services through the Child Advocacy Center, said Joseph Lisi, the center's director. The arrest was carried out by investigators with the Oneida County Sheriff's Office.
