TOWN OF VERNON — A business in Vernon was raided as the result of an investigation into the sale and distribution of heroin, methamphetamine, prescription pills and untaxed cigarettes, officials said.
Authorities Friday executed a search warrant at 5110 State Route 5, the site of Three Aces Auto, according to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office.
Seized from the business was heroin, methamphetamine, prescription pills and untaxed cigarettes, deputies said.
As a result, Morries E. Briggs, 51, of Oneida, was arrested and charged with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor criminal tax fraud and possession/transport for sale of unstamped/unlawfully stamped cigarettes, an unclassified misdemeanor, officials said.
Briggs was sent to Oneida County jail on $20,000 bail. The Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit was assisted by members of the Rome Police Department SIU, Vernon Police Department, state Department of Taxation and Finance and Oneida County Sheriff's Road Patrol.
Other charges are pending at this time, officials said.
