UTICA — So, after a little more digging we found out who should be tending weeds on some highways running through Utica.
Public Eye previously inquired who was responsible for the removal of foot high weeds along median strips on roadways such as Oriskany Street (state Route 5S).
After our initial inquiry, we noticed that the weeds — which some Public Eye readers reported as being an eyesore and embarrassment that city visitors might see — remained.
So, we asked again.
State Department of Transportation spokesman James Piccola confirmed that the state is responsible for weed upkeep along state routes.
He added that on Monday, maintenance crews are expected to be working along Oriskany Street and North Genesee Street, where issues such as weeds will be taken care of.
