For some local commercial development projects finding the right time to launch might be the key.
In this report, the O-D looks at where some projects stand, and found hints of some changing ideas.
Also, a pancake eatery is on the market.
Oneida Indian Nation outlet mall
Nation spokesman Joel Barkin indicated that with the face of retail rapidly changing, and nationwide chains shuttering storefronts and opting for digital retail beef-ups instead of brick-and-mortar retails, "we are continuing our retail development. ... We continue to push forward on other projects."
Barkin said they are waiting for the "right kind of tenants to sign on" for an outlet mall before moving ahead with that project, while still focusing on current developments such as their state Route 5 Sherrill-located Maple Leaf Market (on track for a fall opening and stocking grab-and-go grocery products), and Madison County's town of Sullivan Point Place Casino and Tin Woodmans Flask liquor store. The liquor store also is slated for a fall opening.
"There will be a few other announcements for the fall," he said, but declined to specify what they were.
Keye's Pancake House
In Old Forge, Keyes Pancake House at 2967 Route 28 is up for grabs, said Debra Acee, the listing agent with Pyramid Brokerage in New York Mills.
The sale includes four parcels, including the restaurant, four-bedroom residence next to the restaurant, a vacant lot in the rear and a cottage one mile from the restaurant.
All for an $800,000 asking price.
What's going on in Consumer Square?
In the spring, construction crews began work on a 4,900-square-foot structure in the parking lot of New Hartford’s Consumer Square — owned by Buffalo-based Benderson Development Co. — whose tenants include Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, Bed Bath & Beyond, TJ Maxx and Michael’s.
Flash-forward to this week and the now-completed building sits empty in the plaza, with no sign indicating what it will house. As far as the town knows, the tenant is yet to be determined, and phone messages left at Benderson, have not been returned.
