Due to expected inclement weather, the Observer-Dispatch's 200th Anniversary Birthday Bash scheduled for Saturday has been postponed to Aug. 19.

UTICA — Due to expected inclement weather, the Observer-Dispatch's 200th Anniversary Birthday Bash scheduled for Saturday has been postponed to Aug. 19.

The descision to reschedule came after consulting with local meterologists regarding heavy rain and thunderstorms expected to cover the area Saturday, said Katie Giacovelli, marketing and events manager for the O-D.

“A lot of time and effort went into the planning of this celebration, and we want to make sure the quality and magnitude of the event is not compromised,” Giacovelli said in a news release. “Nor do we want to jeopardize the safety of our guests and all who are involved in staging it.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this postponement may cause, but we feel it is the correct decision in light of the circumstances. The bottom line is, we’re not going to let this unfortunate development rain on our parade. The party will go on, just a little later than expected.”

The party, now scheduled for Aug. 19, will feature live entertainment, a hot dog eating contest with a $500 first prize, Saranac beverages, free mini-half moons for the first 600 guests, assorted food trucks and children's activities.
